roots

Hailing from Connecticut, there really isn't much we can claim. If you dig a little deeper beyond traditional ball sports you may find a world champion CT born and bred: 1978 WWWF Heaveyweight Champ Bob Backlund.

green grass, water, and today: green beer

Happy St. Patrick's Day. Here's an image I took in Ireland a few years back. There's a nice right that comes off that cliff in the distance, not a bad setting. There's also a pub about 30 steps behind where I took this shot...Guinness anyone?

esm

Go to your favorite shop and grab the new Eastern Surf Magazine, or you can check the mag in its entirety here. A nice little noseride shot and blurb about myself in the Northeastern blah blah section. Also, coverage of some good ol' North Carolina friends and what they have been up to in Hawaii. Blows my mind how hard they charge after living in Wrightsville Beach! Nice job guys.

oldie but goodie

First board I've ever shaped, finned, sprayed, glassed, and sanded. A 5'3" mini-Simmons inspired design. Didn't really think these things worked, so I decided to make one last spring and find out for myself. Turns out it's the most versatile and fun board I've ever had. I took it out again yesterday after a long hiatus in some marginal surf and had more fun than I have had in a long time. Choose the right board and every session is the best session of your life...

Ahoy

Are you tired of supporting surf companies that make shiny neon all over print bags, all made through child labor in far off lands? Look no further than Ahoy. Thanks to Darren from Florida for sending this proper board cover titled "the plank". All of his stuff is hand made with one of a kind materials. Avoid the masses, come aboard with Ahoy.

Un-Modern Collective?

As much as I respect and admire the modern generation of surfers and what they are doing on waves these days, it's nice to take a look back and sometimes just enjoy the ride. What better way to do that than ride a '68 Bing v-bottom midlength with a Timothy Leary inspired resin tint? Photographer Luke Simpson and I are starting a restoration project that will end in some serious shredding. A lot more to come...

Original Inspiration

Where I grew up there was nobody riding logs properly, or even riding proper logs. While visiting La Jolla I stopped by Mitch's to check out some boards. I saw Longer on the counter and picked up a copy, not really knowing what it was. This movie singlehandedly changed my perspective on surfing. Joel's effortless flow in waves of all size is what I feel surfing should look like. I never saw such style laid down on small waves. This section paired with the rendition of Misty was quite an inspiration then, and still is today...enjoy

The Cardiff Kook

Good friend Gordon Holden decided to lay down some creativity on the Cardiff Kook last night:

"I met a homeless man last week at a public library, who was using one of their computers. I asked what he was doing. He said "checking my facebook"." g. holden
